Selling with certainty is not a mindset trick. It is the actual mechanism behind every high-ticket client who says yes. Esther Stewart spent nearly a decade at Morgan Stanley and Merrill Lynch coaching executives in high-ticket client acquisition. She left corporate, invested over $300,000 mastering online sales, built a full pipeline and watched nearly everyone say no.
In Episode 160 of The Profit Minds Podcast, Dr. Steven Kirch sits down with Esther, founder of CottnOwl, to break down exactly why certainty closes more than any script, tactic, or testimonial.
In this episode, Dr. Kirch and Esther Stewart break down what selling with certainty actually looks like in practice and why it is the true differentiator for any coach, consultant, or service-based entrepreneur. Here is what is covered:
Esther Stewart did not set out to build a sales coaching firm. She set out to be the best at what she did inside one of the most competitive financial environments in the world. For nearly a decade, she worked at Morgan Stanley and Merrill Lynch — first at Merrill Lynch, then on a large Morgan Stanley team coaching executives across the country in high-ticket client acquisition, and working directly with ultra-high-net-worth clients and celebrities.
She was good at it. But she noticed a ceiling. Inside a corporation, there is always a cap on revenue and always someone else’s buy-in required. When the marketing bug bit her, she decided to make it her own. She gave Morgan Stanley her two-week notice. They talked her into staying for six months. And when she finally left, she hit the ground running.
Within five months of leaving corporate, she had a thriving business. She also had a full pipeline and nearly everyone saying no. That painful gap — great marketing, wrong sales approach — became the education that shaped everything CottnOwl teaches today.
She has since invested over $300,000 in mastering high-ticket sales at every level: one-on-one conversations, stages, webinars, and challenges. Now works with coaches, consultants, and service-based entrepreneurs who want to sell premium offers with full conviction and close at $10,000, $25,000, and $50,000 price points.
The name CottnOwl — C-O-T-T-N, no second O is intentional. It is a pattern interrupt. It makes people curious, helps them remember the brand, and means exactly what it sounds like: cotton for organic, owl for wisdom. Organic wisdom.
When Esther launched CottnOwl, the marketing worked. Qualified prospects were getting on her calls. And nearly every one of them said no.
The first shift was mindset. Esther was treating her sales conversations like free strategy sessions. She was so driven to help that she would start solving problems on the call, working through scope, talking through everything working together could accomplish — all in 45 minutes. The dynamic shifted without her noticing. What was supposed to be a conversation about working together became a free consult. The prospect got value and left without paying for anything. That had to stop.
The second shift was in how she presented the offer itself. She was giving too much detail. Every deliverable, every component, every feature of working with her — she laid it all out. And instead of exciting prospects, she overwhelmed them. Confusion never converts.
Her high-ticket sales coach gave her a different framework. Instead of listing every component of the offer, she built a simple analogy. At the time, it was a storefront. She later shifted it to a sports car. The engine brings clients in. The motor keeps everything running. The fuel or ads keeps the pipeline full. Three parts. Easy to visualize. Five minutes to deliver. And conversion flipped almost overnight.
As a result, two very small shifts — one in mindset, one in presentation changed the entire trajectory of the business.
Esther spent four years watching what actually separated the top performers from everyone else — first at Morgan Stanley and Merrill Lynch, then in the online business world. The answer was always the same.
It was not the best offer, not the most testimonials, not the lowest price. It was certainty.
The top financial advisors at Morgan Stanley were so convicted in what they delivered that if a prospect tried to negotiate on price, they did not even blink. There was simply no room to talk it down, because they knew completely that what they offered could not be found anywhere else at any price.
Furthermore, that certainty showed up everywhere. In their content, sales conversations and pricing. In the way they carried themselves in a room. And clients felt it before they could articulate it. Certainty is what the prospect actually buys into, long before they buy the offer.
It took Esther four years to reach that level of certainty in her own business. She says she achieved it about nine months before this conversation. However, once it clicked, she says, nothing and no one could take it away. And once that clicks for any founder, the path to infinite growth opens.
One of the most practical frameworks in this episode is what Esther calls the white glove approach. She uses CPAs as the clearest example, because the contrast is stark.
The average CPA waits. They remind clients at tax season to send documents. For account information when they need it. They rely on the client to keep the relationship moving.
The exceptional CPA does the opposite. From day one, they go in and get set up. Where are your accounts? Where are your investments held? What duplicate statements should we be receiving? They take that next step on behalf of their client, without being asked.
That small act — proactive ownership instead of reactive dependence is the thing that turns a one-time client into a lifetime client. And eventually into the next generation of clients, because when that client thinks about estate planning or family finances, the CPA who looked out for them is the one they trust with everything.
The principle applies to every service-based business. Wherever you can take a step the client was dreading, wherever you can remove the mental burden from their shoulders, you build the kind of loyalty that does not appear in a churn report until it is already gone from someone else.
